Self perception and foreign perception of China
Self and foreign perception of China have been very different most of the time in history. The different perception can be seen in China's distorted image which ranged in every era between two extremes: Chinoiserie and exotization. Today the big difference between self image and foreign image is shrinking. However, the world public sees China in general more critically than the Chinese do. The goal of enlightenment should be the alignment of the self perception and foreign perception.
